I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to El Capitan 10.11.6. I bought this Mac in late 2011and was informed FCP X 10.3.4 was the latest version compatible with it. Where can I get a download link if it is still available?
Apple Final Cut Pro X 10.3.4 MAC OS X
As Luis said, major misunderstanding here, and my reply was quite wrong in light of this information that you already purchased an earlier version of the software. You would have needed to get the trial version of 10.2.3 before updating further. Then updated projects and events in the trial version, then updating the OS, and then finally updating the FCP libraries.
I am working on Final Cut Pro X (version 10.3.4), and have a product enquiry regarding if the latest version of Compressor is compatible with FCPX 10.3.4. Can projects be sent from this version of FCPX to Compressor for encoding and export?
I have a 2011 iMac which appears to have everything you need to update to 10.4.2 from 10.3.4 (High Sierra 10.13.4, 8 GB memory, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB, etc), but FCPX 10.4.2 never appears in the app store as a needed update... why? It does on my other computers.
I can open older projects that did work before, but now it shows no audio within the files in the timeline even though there was before and I have exported final versions of the videos on these projects. However, the inspector shows that there is a stereo track.
I imported the same files on my mac at work into final cut pro x, version 10.3.4 and the audio works as expected. There is indeed an issue with final cut on my iMac. Again, the files DO WORK on this other machine. I have tried resetting the NVRAM, Final Cut prefs, completely removed and reinstalled final cut.So there is an issue with my computer or my installation of Final Cut on my iMac that does not affect my mac mini at work.
I have sent several emails to apple via their contact form and have not heard anything back from them about this. I would not recommend updating to high sierra if you use final cut pro X until this issue is resolved.
Apple this evening has released minor updates to iMovie and Final Cut Pro for Mac. The updates bring the former to version 10.1.6 and the latter to version 10.3.4, including primarily bug fixes and performance improvements for both
Im on SIERRA OSX 10.12.5 and I just bought a copy of FCPX 10.3.4 and after I installed it and opened it, it asked if I wanted to update my previous library folders to be compatible with the latest version so I did and it crashed.
I am having the same exact issues with FCPX 10.3.4 after upgrading to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1. I have tried with no external drives connected and opening different libraries and I experience the same crashes. I am using a MacBook Pro (15-inch 2017). If I disconnect my external HDMI panel and open the lid to my laptop FCPX launches and open the libraries without any issues. However, if I close the lid and reopen FXCPX is crashes no matter what. I suggest there is a bug as this never happened prior to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1
Under MacOS High Sierra, Final Cut X (10.3.4) crashing when starting on external display. To recreate this event, you must close your MBP/MB lid with an external display attached - either hdmi or dvi. Run with the external display as the primary, then start Final Cut x (10.3.4). The app will crash immediately after starting.
I have experienced this crashing event on my new mid 2017 MBP as well as on my mid 2012 non retina macbook pro. The only work around I could find is to start final cut x with the lid open, then once the app has loaded close the lid and allow the cpu to migrate the desktop to the external display.
Yep got the same problem via Elgato thunderbolt 2's mDP on late-2016 mbp Touch Bar. I contact apple support and they seem to be unaware of the issue (at least the person I spoke to). Funnily, I figured to undock the dock and open fcp on laptop screen only and it worked.
Okay, sometimes it'll launch, but as soon as a new window needs to be created, or media import is initiated, it crashes instantly. 10.3.4 is listed as compatible with High Sierra, so, I'm thinking that it's just me, being lucky. Fortunately I'm only looking at a single, pro bono, gig right now. No time pressure, but need to color correct an hour or two of music video (split into songs, correct, save...), and technically I could use Premiere, which is running just fine under High Sierra. But I have correction and filters loaded up for FCP, so I want to figure this out, if possible.
The problem with external monitor/clamshell mode is a known bug, now, at Apple. An update to fix is in the works. For me it seemed specific to Final Cut Pro (10.3.4) as Premiere, Motion, and DaVinci Resolve were all working fine, in clamshell mode, or not. But like all new releases, there are some issues. I'm also experiencing odd, minor stuff like Calendars not syncing with iOS11/macOS 10.13, strange behavior in Logic Pro (inability to "Save" being rather a "killer."), and very minor other things...
What can we do to make this faster, other than revert back to 10.1? Everything from importing media and rendering edits to the final sharing and rendering is UBER SLOW. I have 2 machines I edit on and both are reacting the same way.

I have an older Macbook that is stuck on El Capitan. I want to purchase Final Cut Pro X at the app store and install the version 10.3.4, which is the last version that supports El Cap.
I think it is a HS problem. I found a fix that works for me on another thread in this forum: Timeline bug in Final Cut X 10.3.4 on High Sierra. Basically, it seems to be a problem with the autostart. Here is part of what one of the members posted:

I have a Hackintosh running MacOS 10.12.6 on an Intel i7 5820K processor (overclocked to 4.3 GHz), 32 GB Corsair 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, a Gigabyte X99 UD4 board, and an ASUS NVidia GTX960 OC Strix Edition Video Card with 4GB DDR5 VRAM. I am getting an average time of 11 seconds on the BruceX 5K benchmark in FCPX 10.3.4. I am using the System Definition of iMac15,1 (which seemed appropriate for my hardware), and background rendering is turned off.

This version is a relatively big deal for DVD creation. I had to outsource Dvd burning to Toast, because FCPX was not responsive to the sharing command. It added 45 minutes of rendering/burning time for my volunteer video guy. The fixed release not only works, but now I can use the restored DVD authoring features that were added in December when the interface was overhauled. Speaking of which, i like that Apple seems finally to be acknowledging the importance of optical media for some of us. 2ff7e9595c
